The day had not really been going well for Yuta, he thought as he sunk down onto the ground in the courtyard. His teacher had let him out early from class after a new student had kind of... pushed him too far, making comments about his muteness, which didn't bother him that much, but inquiring about his mother and the accident. Which bothered him. A lot. Seven years, and it still bothered him. On the plus side, he got out of class twenty minutes early.
Which is why he found himself sitting in the courtyard, not caring that his expensive pants were going to get dirty, and that it was kind of chilly, and his sister would scold him when he found out that afternoon, and then just give him a big hug because although he was an eighteen year old, sometimes a hug from your big sister just makes everything feel like its going to be okay. And it was the closest he was going to get to a hug from his mother.
And aside from that, he had dropped and broken his camera. Okay, just the lens, and that could be replaced, but, not until the weekend, and it was only Wednesday. Letting out a string of silent curse words, Yuta let his head fall back against the bench he was sitting in front of, and closed his eyes, just thinking for a bit.

The form of a young woman sprinted across the courtyard. Her straight brown hair flying behind her head as she ran and the sketch pad tucked under her arm blew wildly with the air her movements created. Her dark brown eyes were focused on the path ahead of her, while she moved to turn the corner. Her black boot clad feet tangled themselves in nothing, but sent her stumbling forward with an ultimate crash to the ground.
The items in Shiori’s backpack went flying all over the ground around her form. A soft shiver ran down her spine as a cold blast of air hit her frame. Today just wasn’t her day it seemed. She had to go over to the pre-school and check on her younger sister Kiyoko, only to end up missing most of her art class for that day. It irritated her a bit, but she knew that the younger child needed her more than she needed her schooling. Even so, Shiori worked hard to make sure that they could both obtain what they needed, even if it was difficult at times.
An irritated sigh left her mouth as she started to pick up the various items scattered all over, sticking them back in her green bag. She should’ve had the thing zipped, but in her panic to return to her classes she neglected that fact. There was maybe twenty minutes left in the class period, it seemed that there was really no point to return now since she had missed over three quarters of the subject anyway. After gathering her items, Shiori stood up and looked around her eyes falling on a boy about twenty yards from her. His presence caught her attention since most were in class at the current time. She wasn’t really certain of what to do though, he seemed to be stuck in his own world at the current moment and part of her didn’t want to disturb him.

Yuta ran a hand through his hair, before opening his eyes. It wasn't very bright out, and it was rather overcast. Fit his mood perfectly. Now, as long as it didn't rain... But, it didn't really look like it would rain. Well, maybe. Yes, no? Yuta really had no idea.
He closed his eyes again, and only a moment after that, he heard something, like someone tripping, but, didn't open his eyes again. It was either some student skipping, and thus they wouldn't talk to him, or a teacher wondering what he was doing out of class, and thus he wouldn't respond. Although he was sure that his teacher would have let the office know, and he wouldn't get in trouble. He'd always been a bit special that way. When things about car accidents were brought up, he tended to freeze and retreat back into his shell one hundred percent, and it bothered him when people talked about his mother, too, although that wasn't often.
However, after a moment, he opened his eyes again, and lifted his head, so at least he was sitting sort of properly. He blinked a few times, and then turned his head in the direction he had heard someone fall or trip before, surprised to actually see someone. He tilted his head to the side a little, not sure who was standing there. Not in his year, he knew that, maybe a second year?

Shiori didn’t know what to do honestly. The person who sat a little ways away from her was a face she didn’t know at all. Perhaps he was from a different class and was just deciding to ditch? There were many questions running through her mind at the current time, but none of them were as important as the urge that ran through her body. She wanted to draw that boy. The idea was a strange one to say the least, but she liked the look of him and the artist inside her said that he would make a good subject for her at the current time.
Slowly she approached him with a bit of insecurity showing in her eyes. Her nerves seemed to be getting the better of her at the current time, but that didn’t matter since Shiori only had a single question to ask him. The possible ways of phrasing her request ran through her mind like a tornado as she drew closer and closer to him with each step she took. Finally when she was a short distance away she bowed lightly to him. ”Excuse me. Sorry to interrupt your moment of peace, but could I draw a picture of you?’ She fiddled with her hands as she looked at him for any response. Even if it was just a nod of the head, any reply would do for the teenage woman.

Yuta watched the girl approach him, and noted that she looked... At most nervous, and thinking a lot. If i t wasn't for the fact that he was the only other person in the courtyard, he would think she was going to talk to someone else. But, he was the only other in the courtyard, so she was clearly coming towards him. Why, though, was the better question.
His head continued to tilt a little to the side as she walked towards him, and his eyebrows furrowed together a little as she asked her question. Honestly, it was a bit of a random request, but... It wouldn't do any harm. And it wasn't like he had anything better to do until next class, and he was considering skipping that and just going home to Shizu-chan and... Well, food, since he'd skipped lunch for a few meetings. So, he just nodded a little, offering a small smile.

Her features lit up with an air of excitement when he nodded his head and offered her a small smile. It was nice to know that she wasn’t just making a complete idiot out of herself for no real reason. Quietly she sat on the ground in front of him and pulled the sketch pad out from under her arm, flipping it open to the first blank page she could find. It took her a bit to find on though, since the life of the current sketch book was nearing its end for her use. Then she started to rummage through her bag until she found the pencil she was looking for. Once she had the items in hand she began to work.
Her hand moved with fluid motions while her eyes would occasionally glance up at him. Shiori seemed to go into a whole other world as she worked on her drawing. It took a bit of time, but the piece seemed to be nearly finished when a loud ring echoed through the air. That was the bell for the next class to start, but she just ignored the warning. The next place she had to be was a study hall, which she normally used that time to pay a visit to the host club. Missing her usual visit wouldn’t be bad for her with it being just one day would it?
Shiori sat her pencil down and looked up at the boy. ”The drawing is finished. Do you want to see it?” She turned the sketch pad around to reveal a simple sketch of Yuta that could mirror a photograph. It was a rather quick drawing though and had yet to be properly cleaned up. She smiled softly at the work she managed to do in such a short amount of time. Her eyes soon fell on a black object that really caught her attention. ”I have that camera.” Reaching into her bag she pulled out a matching piece of technology. She didn’t use it often and from what she could see, his had a broken lens. ”Here.” She unscrewed the delicate lens from the front of her photography object. ”I have another at home.”

Yuta smiled a little, watching the girl sit down and get out sketch book, while he just sat there. He had no idea why she would want to draw him, he wasn't exactly anything fancy, not like the Host Club, like that Tatsuya boy with the blonde hair - although it reminded him of a girls hair style... But, whatever. He really had nothing better to do, and he liked being helpful. Even if it was only sitting here.
So while the girl drew, he just kind of stared off into space, just thinking. About random things, like his English homework - which was really stupid that he had to take English, it wasn't like he could really ever be fluent, since he can't exactly speak it. Not like he was going to argue with them though, since they wouldn't listen. Then there was also the fact that he needed to go and buy more food for Shizu.
The bell to switch classes drew his attention, and while he knew he should be making his way back to class so he didn't miss his math period, he just didn't want to. What the heck was the point? The other student would still be there, and he would just be drawing attention to himself. But, those thoughts slipped his mind when the girl turned her sketch book around to show him the picture. He wasn't sure what he looked like at the exact moment, but, the picture was amazing, even if it was just a quick sketch.
Yuta glanced down at his camera when she pointed it out, and was a little confused as she lifted a matching one out of her bag. He didn't really know what she was doing, but, when she unscrewed the lens of her own camera and handed it to him, he couldn't help but smile softly. At least now he didn't have to wait and miss the meeting tomorrow for the newspaper. He bowed his head, smiling at the girl as he set the lens piece on his bag to change in a moment, pulling out a small note book. Thank you very much! He wrote, turning it around to show her.

A loud ringing sound echoes from the dark haired girl's backpack suddenly. It made Shiori jump a bit as she pulled out the black and blue device. It seemed that she had a text message, but it could wait for a reply. She tossed the object back into her bag and turned in time to see the words written on the small note book in the boy's hand. It brought a smile to her mouth. "It's no big deal. My name is Akiyama Shiori."
Her phone went off again, though this time it seemed more urgent than before. She had an idea of who it was already in the back of her mind so she just kept pushing it off. She was certain that a few of the people in the host club were probably concerned that she hadn't shown up since it was almost routine for her to pay a visit during her study hall time. Especially since she had recently started being a regular guest of Sugihara Tatsuya. With a heavy sigh she opened the two text messages that both asked the same thing Where are you?
She just closed the messages without a reply and turned off the mobile device. "I'm sorry about that. I should've turned it off the first time." Her voice was apologetic as she looked at Yuta. In truth he was a very sweet looking boy with an air of normality about him. Something that Shiori liked that honestly made him different from most of the boys she met.
Shiori herself was plain, or at least she felt like that. Many people often commented on how pretty and smart she was, but all she wanted was to blend in with everyone else to some degree. She was a girl that if she wanted to could probably have a boyfriend rather easily, but she didn't have that luxury in her life right now. With her little sister Koko in need of someone to care for her, Shiori had to put her life on hold.

Yuta watched the girl with her cell phone, before she introduced herself. While her phone rang a second time, he took the moment to write something not his note book once again.
I'm Ueda Yuta. He wrote in his slightly messy, but, somehow still neat handwriting. It's nice to meet you Akiyama-san. He turned to show the note to her, noting her throwing her phone into her bag, apologizing for not turning it off the first time. Yuta shook his head a little, tacking another sentence onto his note. It might have been important. He wrote, signalling he didn't mind much.
His own cell phone didn't really get a lot of use, mostly on account of not being able to actually speak to use it, but, even using it to message people. Well, it was pretty much limited to the newspaper club members, and the photography club members, which tended to overlap anyway, and his sister. It was mostly his sister.

Shiori read the words on the paper and nodded her head. "Your right, but it was just some people I know that were a bit concerned about me since I haven't gone to my usual area for this class period." Her eyes followed the flow of his writing style. "Your hand writing is incredible Ueda-san. I wish my hand writing could be that neat." Shiori really didn't understand what kept her here with this boy she never met before, but she enjoyed his company.
The teen turned her attention back to the camera at his side. "You like photography?" In truth is was more of a realization than a question, but it was a subject that Shiori knew very little about. She only carried her camera around when she had to find something for muse. She used it as a tool to gain references, but knew that it could be an art form all its self if placed in the right hands.

Yuta smiled a little bashfully at the comment about his handwriting. He was usually just scrawling things down, but, since it was his only was of communicating most of the time, it had just grown to be rather neat over the years of being a mute. Thank you. He wrote, I do. It's one of my favourite things in the world. He glanced down at his camera, which was his most prized possession, besides his turtle, solely because his turtle couldn't be replaced, where as his camera could at the drop of a hat - or a trip downtown to the mall.
He turned the note around, enjoying the girls company. It pretty much made him forget why he was even out of class in the first place. He wasn't exactly the most popular boy in the school - clearly - but, it wasn't like he wasn't popular at all. He just happened to have a small crowd of people he hung around with, and he did enjoy meeting new people, most of the time.

Photography was something that intrested Shiori to an extent. She viewed it as an art form that took special skills and needed a unique mind. She smiled softly at Yuta and heard the ring of the warning bell in the back of her mind. Something told her that she really should go and check in with the people that were worried about her. On the other hand she was really enjoying the time she was spending with the boy in front of her. "Ueda-san do you want to be a photographer one day?"
She was curious about him. Shiori wanted to learn more about him, even why it was that he chose to write on a notebook rather than use his voice. In the back of her mind she felt like it might be a sensitive subject for him, so she just let it go for now. A crack of thunder nearly made the teen jump out of her skin though. It was going to rain, how perfect. If they stayed outside the pair would catch their deaths. "Should we go inside?"

Yuta nodded, starting to make a comment on his note book before a crack of thunder roared in the sky, making him flinch. He nodded again when Shiori suggested going inside, and quickly gathered his things together and shoved them into his bag - except his notebook, that stayed in his hand - before standing.
He wondered whether or not Shiori knew he couldn't speak. A lot of the school didn't know that, but, many of them did. He tended to be known as the mute photographer, or some variation, but, he didn't know if people thought that was because he was quiet, or if they knew he was actually mute. He glanced at Shiori as the headed into the school, before finishing his writing quickly. I do; I feel its the one way I can express myself, and it makes me feel closer to my mother.
